Welcome to the October Edition of the Evesham Noticeboard Newsletter!
Autumn is well and truly upon us! The air is crisp, the leaves are turning, and it’s time to break out those woolly socks. Whether you’re sipping on a pumpkin spice latte from one of Evesham’s fantastic cafes or getting ready to carve your pumpkins , October has a lot to offer. And with the clocks going back on the 27th, we all get an extra hour to enjoy it!
This month also marks the beginning of the fun season, with the Mop Fair, Halloween, and Bonfire Night just around the corner. Plus, our Love Evesham Awards are fast approaching—voting is now open in our community awards, and we’d love for you to get involved! Be sure to check out the details below.
However, as the weather cools and we face bouts of torrential rain, it’s important to remember that some members of our community, particularly seniors, may struggle during this time. This month, we have a dedicated article on the services available to help those in need, including where to find support and the resources that are out there.
As always, we're excited to introduce our newest business members, and this month we’re also shining a spotlight on some of Evesham’s creative talents—don’t miss our feature on the incredible artists and makers in our community.
Thank you for being a part of what makes Evesham so special. If you or someone you know is in need of assistance, please remember that help is always available through our local services.

A Call for Help from Evesham Greyhounds and Lurchers Charity
Four precious puppies arrived at the rescue in critical condition this week. Parvovirus was confirmed, and sadly, the little red boy puppy couldn't be saved. The vets are fighting tirelessly to save the remaining three and they need YOUR help.
The rescue has already spent over £4,100 on vet bills, and with two pups in particular still struggling, the fight continues. We know times are tough, but even just sharing our Facebook post will help raise awareness.
A donation of just £1 (or more if you're able) can make a world of difference. Your support can ensure these precious lives get the care they desperately need.
Here's how you can help:
- Donate via the website: https://lurcher.org.uk/ (Look for the Paypal donate link on the homepage)
- Donate directly to their bank account:
- Natwest Evesham
- Sort Code: 60-08-44
- Account Number: 15337286
- Account Name: Evesham Greyhound and Lurcher Rescue
Your kindness could save lives. No amount is too small, and every pound counts.
Cycle with PALS Open Day is A Huge Success
On Saturday, September 15th, the local organisation PAL Fitness & Education CIC hosted a community open day to introduce their new initiative, Cycle with PALS. Designed to make cycling more accessible for people with disabilities, Cycle with PALS provides adaptable bicycles that cater to a wide range of abilities.
The event took place at Evesham Velo Park, located at the Evesham United Football Club. Dignitaries and members of the public were invited to learn about the organisation and its goals.
Joining PAL and Cycle with PALS were other local organisations, including Cyclestars, Evesham Adventure Playground Association, and Evesham United Pan Disability Team. These groups offered various sessions and activities to raise funds for this worthy cause.
Visitors had the opportunity to enjoy free use of the main cycle track, try out the adaptable bikes, get their bikes repaired or marked, and receive safety and security advice from the Evesham Police Community bus. Children also had a blast with inflatables, while adults enjoyed a tombola and refreshments.
The open day was a fantastic success, providing a great opportunity to learn about these local community organisations. If you're a business interested in getting involved, PALs would love your support. Consider sponsoring a bike or investing in more accessible bike equipment. Visit the link below to find out more about sponsorship opportunities.

Tracy Sollis Leukaemia Foundation Raises Funds for New Vein Finders
If you saw our charity spotlight on the Tracy Sollis Leukaemia Trust several months ago, you will have seen that the trust's most recent project was to raise funds for new "Accufinders" - vein finders for local health centres and hospitals.
I'm therefore so happy to share, that following their recent fundraising efforts, the trust has been able to purchase 3 Accufinders for use at Bidford Health Centre, Riverside Surgery (Evesham), and the Alexandra Hospital (Redditch).
The Accufinders make it much easier and therefore less painful for the patient to find good veins, improving the patient experience, and they cost £5000 each.
It's fantastic news and so incredibly inspiring. A massive well done to the charity for achieving this wonderful result.

Village Show a Huge Success!
On Saturday 14th September, villagers and visitors descended on Bretforton Manor for the Bretforton show.
It was the first time the show had been held in 2 years after the show was cancelled in 2023 and it was fantastic to see it return. The attendees thought so too and so much so that visitors numbers were up with over 1000 people attending on the day.
A massive well done to the organisers, stallholders and volunteers on the day for all their hard work at this wonderful local event.
A date for 2025 has already been set so make sure you add Saturday 13th September 2025 to your calendars!

Our Guide to Accessing Services for
Evesham's Senior Citizens
Times are difficult for all, but especially for the older members of our community. In fact, it's been said that "every 8 minutes an older person dies in poverty".
Now I don't know about you, but here at Evesham Noticeboard, we think that's completely unacceptable and we want to help. So we've put our thinking caps on, carried out research into local organisations, and what's available from the government, and have decided to put this guide together to help anyone who might need support.
Please share this with anyone you know and if they don't have internet access - consider printing this guide and passing it on to anyone who might need help.

Evesham Fire Station Holds Open Day
Local residents were in for a treat in September when the public were invited to an open day at Evesham Fire Station. Members of the Hereford & Worcestershire Fire Services opened the doors and allowed residents to see close-up demonstrations organised by the fire services.
Demonstrations included
- Road Traffic Collision rescue demonstrations using specialist equipment
- Animal rescues, hazardous materials and house fire demonstrations
- Chip pan fire demonstrations showing how to safely put this type of fire out
- and not forgetting the teddy bear Zipline!
There were also appearances from children's tv characters, and displays with the fire service rescue dog, and drones.
Representatives from St Johns Ambulance, the police service, and environment agency also attended and families were able to view the fire engines, police / ambulance vehicles and inflatables up close.
It was a fantastic day and donations were also collected for the Fire Fighters Charity.
Thank you to everyone involved in organising the open day, it was fantastic having the opportunity to learn more about the fire service.

Broadway Art Bursaries
Do you live in Broadway, the WR12 postcode or surrounding villages?
Are you a student planning to study or already studying Fine Art, Applied Arts, Music, or the Performing Arts?
If you've answered yes to those questions (or if you know a student who would) you could be eligible for a bursary of between £500-£2000 from the Broadway Festival Trust.
The bursaries are awarded to students to help with course expenses and to pay for foreign travel in relation to their field of study.
The festival and charitable trust aims to maintain and develop Broadway's artistic heritage as an established venue for artistic excellence and the student arts grants play a pivotal role in this.
To be eligible you must be:
- Aged 18 or over on September 1st
- About to start or be in full-time education in the arts on a degree or postgraduate course at a University or College
- Priority will be given to applicants who currently reside or, if already having started a course, have a family residential address in the WR12 postcode, but applications will be considered from neighbouring areas.
To apply - complete the online application form and send requested information by the application deadline of 6pm on Friday 11th October 2024.
Please note: Bursaries are awarded based on the strength and quality of the application. Not all who apply will make it to the interview stage, this is a competitive process. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted in late November and invited for an interview just before Christmas, either in person or via Zoom. Please prepare for your interview and be able to show examples of your prior work, or provide website links.
Awards are made and funds transferred in early January. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to submit a short presentation in the form of video, Powerpoint or pdf to demonstrate their work and achievements. They'll also need to supply a photograph of themselves to be used by the festival for promotional purposes if their application is successful. Students can apply each year for a maximum of 3 years’ funding in total. If you have any queries about the bursaries or application process, please contact us by email at info@broadwayartsfestival.com
