September's here and summer is back.... just as the kids go back to school.
It's typical, isn't it? The kids are back and so is the hot weather with much of the country currently on an amber alert for heat warnings.
Well, whilst there's not much we can really do about that, there is still a lot to look forward to this month with lots of events coming up. We also have lots of news and updates for you.
Here's just some of what you can look forward to in this month's newsletter:
- We look back at the Battle of Evesham Festival
- We share what events are on this month and learn more about 'retreat on your street'
- We shine our charity spotlight on Wallace House and share how this community centre is helping the people of Evesham (and how you can also get involved)
- As always we have our pet corner - this month we offer our guide to the best dog walks in and around Evesham
- We get the latest business news updates
And as always we also cast our bright spotlight on a local business and introduce you to our newest members.
So sit back with a cold drink of your choice, make yourself comfortable and read on.
If you have some good news to share with our community, from community work to business news please do email us with your story at hello@eveshamnoticeboard.co.uk
Wallace House
Charity Spotlight
We are shining our spotlight on Wallace House this month as we talk to the lovely Sian Purton, manager of Wallace House - the new home of our community podcast, Vale Matters. Wallace House was gifted to the community by Samuel Wallace Smedley (owner of the local can factory Smedley Peas) in 1947. He wanted to give something back to the community by providing recreational, social, educational and sporting opportunities that younger people could benefit from.
Wallace House rents out rooms to the community to provide these opportunities, enabling the community to develop and learn new skills. Currently, Wallace House is the home to mental well-being groups, substance abuse, sexual assault, and domestic abuse support groups. They are also the home for a diverse range of clubs - U3A, Seated Cricket & Walking Cricket clubs, Emerging Futures (For those affected by homelessness, drug and alcohol problems and physical and mental health needs), dancing, Martial Arts, Sword re-enactors, 5 a side football, dog training and table tennis…. The list is endless.
Wallace House is also home to health services which some individuals might otherwise struggle to access including Diabetic eye screenings, holistic services for those with special needs and (coming soon) a pop-up health clinic in collaboration for those who due to their housing situation struggle to access health care.
Wallace House aims to be fully accessible and try to be what the community need. As a charity, they rely on donations - not just funds but also for food and supplies for their community larder. It’s open 2 days a week (Tuesday & Friday) from 12-1pm, when people can access what they need, be it food or toiletries.
Right now, Wallace House is in need of more volunteers to help with food provision and to run future events. They are also trying to raise funds to renovate their sports hall which is used by many members of the community.

Battle of Evesham Reigns Supreme!
You've voted it Evesham's best community event of the year and even a few showers over the weekend couldn't dampen spirits of all those who attended or participated in this year's Battle of Evesham festival. The event attracts visitors from all over Europe and is one the biggest re-enactment festivals in the UK with over 600 re-enactors demonstrating a multitude of mediaeval events. Re-enactors showed off their skills in cooking, brewing medicines and weaponry as well as taking part in a Grand Parade around the centre of Evesham. The highlight for many as always was of course the re-enactment of the 2 main battles that changed history forever.
It was a fantastic weekend and thanks go to all those involved in the event - the knights, horses, maids, wenches, organisers, event staff, litter pickers, safety staff, stallholders, food and drinks vendors, marketing and PR, security parking attendants and all the other behind the scenes staff without whom the event could not run.
Well done and we look forward to the next one!!!

Vale Irrigation
Business Spotlight
In this month's business spotlight, we introduce you to David Cole, the force behind Vale Irrigation. While many of you may know him as the owner of the popular bouncy castle company, JDP Leisure, David has recently embarked on a new journey. He’s gone back to his roots in the irrigation industry, a field he's been intimately familiar with since the tender age of 16.
After many years of diligently climbing the ranks in the irrigation world, the dream of owning his own irrigation business had long been simmering within him, and it was the ownership of JDP that provided the catalyst for him to launch Vale Irrigation in March 2023.
Bolstered by a robust network cultivated during his years in the irrigation sector, David wasted no time and has quickly amassed a list of local clients and businesses who are eager for his services. His expertise and reputation as a trusted authority quickly made him the go-to resource for anyone seeking irrigation solutions. And as the business grew, he was able to open his first premises at Blackminster Business Park.
Vale Irrigation primarily serves clients in the agricultural, horticultural, and plumbing industries by offering specialised components that facilitate the movement and storage of water. Their mission is simple: to ensure that livestock, crops, plants, and flowers have the water they require to thrive. Whilst the company doesn’t offer installation, thanks to David's extensive connections, he is able to source the help his clients need.
Since its inception in March, Vale Irrigation has experienced substantial growth, a testament to David's unwavering dedication to both his business and the broader industry. He is ecstatic about the progress, stating, “I'm so glad the business has come this far already, it’s been a fantastic start.” The support from the local community has also been heartwarming, and David envisions further expansion, with plans to delve deeper into the world of e-commerce in the future.

Business Owners Enjoy Networking Over Tasty Bites at Popular Town Centre Location
In August, we hosted a lunchtime networking event for members of the noticeboard. Local business owners had the chance to network whilst sampling the menu of popular local eatery Stirr Ups. Entrepreneurs from a variety of local businesses attended the drop in session and enjoyed the opportunity to make new connections, put faces to names and enjoy good conversations about the growing and supportive business community in Evesham.
The event was held in the upstairs function room of Stirr Ups and business owners were able to try popular meal items including their famous crispy belly bites and halloumi fries.
It was a brilliant opportunity and helpful for many of those who attended so thanks to all the welcoming and wonderful staff at Stirr Ups for a great experience.
There are plans to hold another networking event but a date has not yet been confirmed so keep an eye on the Facebook group for updates.
Contact Katie if you would like an invite to a future networking event. All registered already with our directory businesses are welcome.
Local Glazing Company Celebrates New Name and Brand Refresh at Evesham-Based Premises
Congratulations to glazing company Capital Systems who've recently changed their name to Glazing by Capitall. Whilst they've been a fixture in the Evesham community for over 20 years, owners Martin and Julie recently decided it was time to take on a brand refresh with new signage and a new name. They've also just started their very own Facebook page so give them a like when you get the chance!
The business actually started back in 2001, since which time Martin and the team have measuring, designing, supplying, and expertly fitting glazing units for both domestic and commercial properties.
