Welcome to the August Edition of the Evesham Noticeboard Newsletter!!!
Well, what a month it has been in our group. We have seen thousands of posts in the group, from people new to the area looking for recommendations, to what’s on or available to support! And now it is time for us to share some local good, really good news!
First, let’s enjoy the wonderful events Evesham has to offer this August. We are so lucky to have one of the UK’s largest Medieval events with The Battle of Evesham Festival, plus all of the beautiful parks, from riding a dragon boat on the River Avon, sitting listening on a Sunday to Bands in the park, or take a visit to Hampton Ferry with a full month of events, and a restaurant with Riverside views. There is so much more, please do check out the full newsletter for the guides!
Please do share your photos in our group! Let’s show the rest of Worcestershire that Evesham is the Heart! #Loveevesham
One of the popular posts in our group was by our very own content writer Gemma Edwards, who posted about the worldwide IT issue that affected doctors, retailers and businesses across the Vale. It was useful and helped signpost our community who were looking to find out where was still accept card or if they needed cash. It was surprising how many places could not take card payments, but lucky for us we still have a cash, a very good example of why cash is king still!
On another note, I am so pleased to share that Evesham Noticeboard now has a base, a place to meet, provide training, and create good content for our town! We share the offices on Brick Kiln Street with our sister company The Bright Ideas Marketing Agency and our The Vale Matters Podcast.
Have a great summer everyone, and thanks for continuing to read our good news newsletter!

Hampton Ferry Plays Host to Events this Summer
Hampton Ferry is such a unique spot here in Evesham offering a host of attractions including the chain ferry, Raphael's Restaurant (perfect for ice creams on a sunny day) and a caravan park. It also regularly plays host to events both private and for the community. This August, this amazing venue will be buzzing all month long and with loads of events on (many of which are regular), there's bound to be something you'll love.
Enjoy your Evesham Staycation
The Summer Holidays are well and truly upon us, but whilst some will be jetting off to far-off shores, that simply won't be an option for many people. If you are looking for inspiration for things to do in and around the 'sham this summer, we've got you covered. There are so many activities available right here on your doorstep with many of them free or low cost. Here's our pick of some of the best that Evesham has to offer.
Playgrounds
There are so many amazing playgrounds in Evesham and the Vale that children will love. In fact, we've dedicated a whole guide to Evesham's playgrounds and play areas so if you haven't checked that out yet, now is the perfect time. Why not make a game of it and see how many you can visit in one day - and take a picnic with you? Some playgrounds also have sports facilities - perfect if the kids want to kick a ball around safely or play basketball or netball.
There's also the Evesham Velo Park - a cycling track for all the family to enjoy. It's currently free for use on a Tuesday and Friday. Why not check it out?
Splashpads
If it's a hot day and the kids are desperately trying to keep cool, why not check out some of the county's splashpads. There's one right here in Evesham or further afield you can check out the ones in Pershore or Droitwich.
Parks
Here in the Vale of Evesham, we are incredibly fortunate to have some beautiful parks - most notably Abbey park with it's stunning gardens and its location between the river and the Bell Tower. It's the perfect place to spend an afternoon of fun with all of the family (even the furry ones). Bring along a picnic and people watch or come along on a Sunday afternoon when bands on the park is on and you can chill out whilst listening to a brass band.
Enjoy the local history
Immerse yourself in our historical town, from the Abbey Ruins, to the medieval battle site and the Almonry museum, if you and the kids love history, Evesham has a lot to offer. The Battle of Evesham festival also takes place at the beginning of the month - it's also free entry and well worth checking out for the battle re-enactments and the living history displays.
The Almonry is also offering free entry during August - if it's been a while (and you've not visited since your school days), now is the perfect time for a visit.
River Activities
There are so many activities available alongside the river. Enjoy a walk along the riverside path, try out table tennis or pentaquin on the courts in workman gardens or consider hiring a dragon-shaped pedalo or kayak for your very own riverside adventure.
Free Festivals and Events
This August, Evesham plays host to lots of events for all the family. There's the Battle of Evesham Festival Weekend on 3rd - 4th August, the Angling & Craft Festival on 24th-26th August, plus family fun days at Hampton Ferry including the Scarecrow Festival on 17th August and CFAC's Family Fun Day on 31st August.
Paid activities
As well as free activities you can also check out a whole host of paid activities including
- Huge selection of craft activities including pottery painting at Kaz & Annies
- Adventure Golf & High Ropes at The Valley
- Swimming and Sports at the leisure centres in Evesham & Pershore
- Soft play at Fundamental Movement Academy & Wacky Warehouse
- Miniature railway at the Valley

Our Guide to the Battle of Evesham Festival
Mayor's Corner - July
If months have themes, then July’s theme has definitely been ‘Pride in Evesham’. The Mayoress and I were invited to Prince Henry’s High School on no fewer than three occasions this month, for their incredible Art and Fashion Show, Annual Speech Day and a very special Summer Concert. It is always to a pleasure to revisit my old school and see how it’s changed. Prince Henry’s has every right to be very proud of their students and Evesham should very proud of Prince Henry’s.
We have also represented Evesham at The Chairman of Worcestershire County Council’s family day at Bewdley Museum. Bewdley museum is a terrific example of a busy, interactive museum which is a hive of activity and a credit to its town.
Of course July in Evesham wouldn’t be complete without the Annual River Festival, and what a great event this was again this year. This really is an event of which Evesham can be proud, it showcases our beautiful riverfront, is a great event for locals and a major tourist attraction bringing visitors to Evesham. I have to confess I was a little nervous giving a talk to Evesham Rotary at their monthly supper meeting this month, they are all well respected members of our communities, who never hesitate to get involved with what is going on, so to stand before them and talk about my civic duties was rather like preaching to the choir, in the end we had a thoroughly lovely evening and they very kindly gave me an ‘easy time’. When the evening ended with a Q&A session, which inevitably included the thorny subjects of shops, planning and traffic, it became very clear that every single member of Rotary has a deep-rooted love for Evesham, and while we can all agree it is far from perfect, we all agreed that is a stunningly beautiful town with thriving communities working hard for those around them.
Onside is a charity working across Worcestershire, established in 1993 stemming from a belief that everyone has the right to be a valued human being and to be treated in a just and fair way. In support of this belief they provide a range of support and services to ensure fairness and equality for adults who may be vulnerable, disadvantaged or discriminated against. This includes mental and physical ill health, sensory impairment, learning disability, drug and alcohol misuse, older people, and carers. We were honoured to be invited to attend Onside’s first anniversary in Evesham party this month and see firsthand how much the charity has achieved in its first year.
It is always nice to see businesses expand and grow, and it was an absolute pleasure to attend the opening of Evesham Noticeboard’s (and Bright Ideas Advertising Agency) new offices in Brick Kiln Street. Katie certainly works hard promoting Evesham, her clients and numerous local charities and not-for-profit organisations.
We ended the month in a number churches!… Attending The Mayor of Alcester’s Civic Service. It is always a pleasure to visit our neighbours on the Warwickshire side and promote Evesham ‘over the border’, and then Sedgeberrow Church Fete. Don’t you just love a good fete?!
Lastly, we visited Caring Hands in the Vale’s ‘Lighthouse’ in Vine Street, where the High Sheriff of Worcestershire presented four volunteers with awards for the sterling work they have done for this charity over the years, Tim McSweeney, Lindy Brain, Veronica (Ronny) Saunders and Sean Sandalls… thank you for all you do… Evesham is proud of you.
Kind Regards
Robert Raphael
Mayor of Evesham

Freedom Day Centre Celebrates 7th Anniversary
A huge congratulations to Freedom Day Centre who in July celebrated their 7th Anniversary!!! The day centre for adults with learning disabilities, celebrated by hosting a spectacular party that was attended by regular attendees, people from the local community, and other special guests.
The day centre started out in 2017 in a rented room at the Royal British Legion club, Badsey, by manager and founder Tracy Hemmings. It's since moved into its current home, a former Quaker meeting house, where renovations have been carried out including an extension providing the venue with a bigger main hall, new kitchen, and cafe. The garden has also had a makeover with furniture donated by the Blue Diamond Garden Centre, located at the Valley.
A bigger surprise was a brand new mini bus (pictured above) which will be used for day trips and to transport service users to a static accessible caravan owned by the charity in Devon.
Happy birthday to all at the Freedom Day Centre! For more information check them out online and visit their cafe which is open to the public Monday to Thursday.

Evesham Bat Care To The Rescue
Five weeks ago, one local resident discovered an injured bat beside her back door. Under the bat's wing was her tiny pup - just one day old, with its umbilical cord still attached.
Fortunately local charity, Evesham Bat Care were only to happy to help.
The charity was started in 2019 with the goal of rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing bats back to their natural habitat. At its inception, Evesham Bat Care was run by its two founding carers but it has now expanded to 6 carers with an additional 6 ambulance drivers.
The injured mum and pup were immediately checked over and mum's injury was significant and serious. Following consultation with their amazing vet, a plan was developed involving specialised meds suitable for a lactating mum and her wounds.
We are pleased to say that following nursing and rehabilitation, the injured mum and her pup were returned from the garden where they were found and released into the wild. It was amazing to see them fly off and thank you to Evesham Bat Care for all their efforts to rehabilitate them.
Want to get involved? - donate now using the link below or why not take part in an upcoming bat walk? Evesham Bat Care is hosting two this month (details below) and it's a fantastic way to find out more about these incredible creatures that live alongside us.

Our Social Media Admin Kim takes to the skies!
Our very own Content Queen and Socially Savvy Expert Kim recently took to the skies with Bidford Guiding and Flying Club. Kim participated in a special flying weekend for women. The event was put on to encourage more women to join a sport that is sadly lacking in female pilots. The day itself was perfect for gliding and when Kim arrived, it was clear that she was joining a friendly community! Bidford Flying Club is run by volunteers - they LOVE everything about this incredible sport and their passion was clear to see. All the members were so lovely, welcoming, and also happy to answer any questions that we might have. After the crucial safety briefing, the women were towed into the sky on a 2000ft training flight. Once released, they glided through thermals with the grace of a bird. Kim said, "It was an absolutely awe-inspiring experience! The views of our town are absolutely breathtaking and it was so peaceful. This is coming from someone scared of flying!" Always wanted to learn to fly? Zimprint Embarks on Next Chapter in New Home
A huge congratulations to the team at Zimprint who last month moved to a new location at Corn Mill Yard.
Zimprint has long been a staple at Merstow Green providing printing services to the community and local businesses. But following the brand's expansion and an increase in commercial orders, the team had long outgrown their old premises so when the opportunity arose to take on the new site at Corn Mill Yard they jumped at the chance.
Unlike their previous location, the new unit is approximately 25% bigger. It's also open-plan, spacious, and airy - with more space for their printing equipment and more room for the team to move around as well. With more space to play with, the team now also has easier access to their equipment making it easier to fulfill orders. This also means they have more space for new equipment should they wish to invest in more technology to extend their printing services.
Zimprint are continuing to offer ink to customers as a nod to their origins (the business started as a Cartridge world franchise) but as their reputation has grown over the years, they have become the go-to for businesses needing signage, brochures, and business stationery.
It is the large increase in commercial orders from both local companies and national organisations such as the BBC, who recently reached out for sign graphics for the Sister Boniface series, which has fueled their expansion and allowed them to take this next step.
And it's certainly an exciting step to take. We look forward to seeing what the future holds in store for Zimprint following their move to Corn Mill Yard.
To find out how Zimprint can help your business visit now via the link below.
Traditional Artisan to appear at
Battle of Evesham Festival
There are very few traditional blacksmiths left in this country but we are incredibly fortunate to have one right here in the Vale of Evesham. Steel Dragon Forge is based in Honeybourne and prides itself on creating amazing metalwork designs.
Steel Dragon Forge can create anything you can think of, from metalwork fencing and gates for your boundary to bespoke arches for your garden. Better still, they do commissions so you can sit down with a blacksmith who can help to bring your vision to life.
Steel Dragon Forge are also regulars at the Battle of Evesham Festival so make sure to visit their stall when you attend this year!

The jewellers, who specialise in jewellery for weddings and engagements, received £1000 to help further grow the business. The grant will be used to purchase new equipment, transfer more work in-house, and take on a trainee goldsmith.
Wedstones is well known in the area with many newly engaged couples reaching out to Leon for his stunning collection of jewellery. First founded seven years ago, the business provides a personal experience you simply won't receive elsewhere as the many 5 star reviews he's received prove.
As well as the wide selection of jewellery available, Wedstones also offers commissions and repurposes jewellery so if you have an old piece that you want to give a new lease on life, he can help.
Well done again to Leon for securing the grant. You can check Wedstones out on Facebook or to get in touch, click the link below.

Spudman Celebrates 1 Year in Market Square
As the staff at Spudman Evesham say, time flies when you're cooking spuds!
Can you believe its been one year since Spudman moved to their current location in Market Square? The business, which has been trading for over 34 years, was previously located in Evesham's Riverside Shopping Centre but despite the move, it's been a huge success.
The team say they didn't know what to expect in their new location but one year on, "it was the best decision we ever made and it's all thanks to our amazing customers! None of this would have been possible without any of you and we are so grateful that you continue to support our small business."
Congratulations to the team on celebrating their first anniversary in the new Market Square location, they have achieved a real presence with queues out the door on festival weekends such as the Medieval Market Weekend. They are a fixture of the market square where they were a welcome addition.
Thanks for reading!
