Evesham AED (Automated External Defibrillator) Team Fundraising Efforts

Community Spotlight

In our monthly community spotlight, we shine a light on remarkable individuals making a positive impact in Evesham. This month, we're thrilled to introduce Kerry Wood, a newly qualified paramedic who’s on a mission to save more lives in the town by providing more defibrillators in the community

In a town where the nearest ambulance station is a 20-minute drive away, swift access to defibrillators can be a matter of life and death. Defibrillators don’t work in all instances of cardiac arrest but where they do, the sooner you use a defibrillator the higher the survival rates. If used within a minute the chances of survival are as high as 90%, but for every minute you delay the chances of survival drop by 10%. After 10 minutes, the chances of survival are less than 5% and that’s why it’s vital that we get more defibrillators into the community.

Kerry's first defibrillator was given to her by the council and was installed on her own house on the Orchards estate. But more are sorely needed and with fundraising efforts taking off, she rallied a team around her (Evesham AED team) to help with her cause.  Kerry’s efforts have resulted in the installation of two defibrillators, one in Greenhill and the other in the Orchards. Plans are also currently in place for a third on Kings Road but the goal is to install as many as possible in housing estates, where they are most likely needed.

Hopefully, you’ll never need to use a defibrillator but if you do, simply dial 999, and you will be directed to the nearest defibrillator location, along with the access code.

The response from the Evesham community has been nothing short of incredible. Local businesses and the general public have stepped up to support the cause and have generously donated towards this life-saving mission.

To help with their fundraising efforts, the Evesham AED Team are organising a special event on Saturday 21st October at Bengeworth Social Club. The day will be split into two segments, offering something for everyone. During the day, families can enjoy a bouncy castle, face painting, bottle and teddy tombolas, a raffle, games, a cake sale, and much more. And then in the evening, there will be a lively disco, Irish bingo, games, and additional entertainment for the adults.

If you'd like to contribute to this wonderful cause, there are several ways to get involved. You can donate funds, purchase raffle tickets, provide prizes for the raffle, and, of course, attend the fundraising day. Tickets for the evening segment are available for just £5 each.

Special thanks to the Evesham AED Team (Kerry Wood, Karen Stephens Kerry Yeates Donna Atkin) and all those who’ve donated or volunteered their services.

Together, let's help them in their mission to protect and save lives in our wonderful community.

Summer Fete Raises Funds for New Children's Playground in Evesham!

Well done to the team at the Friends of St Richards Open Space who raised over £750 at their summer fete held in August.

There was a great selection of stallholders and food vendors for the adults to shop from whilst the children enjoyed a bouncy castle, inflatable slides, face painting and fairground-style games. With the funds raised on the day, the team has hit their fundraising target of £10,000 and it is hoped that work will start on the new children's playground in Fairfield very soon. Congratulations to the team and thank you to the visitors, vendors and Craig at the school for helping make the summer fete idea a reality

If you want to stay up to date on what's happening with the playground project, check out the FoSROS Facebook page.

Cash-Friendly Businesses of Evesham

If you've been on our Facebook page recently, you may have seen one of our more popular posts where we asked our followers to update which businesses in Evesham accept cash for payment.

With the list growing longer and longer since the post went live, we thought it would be a great idea to create a separate webpage featuring a directory of all Evesham's cash-friendly businesses.

We also appreciate that some businesses have decided to stop accepting cash for various reasons, and just want to say that this post is not written to demean any business that does so. That choice is for the business owners to make and as a community we must do our best to respect their decision.

The key thing to remember is that CHOICE to choose how to pay is king. Not cash or card, but CHOICE.

Popular Halloween Trail Returns to Evesham this Half-Term

The popular halloween trail, organised by Johnsons Property Consultants, has been a fixture for the children of Evesham for the last few years. Children collect a trail sheet from Johnsons which features lots of clues to the locations of hidden letters. Once they find all the letters (located in the windows of participating independent shops) the children can return their fully completed trail sheets to Johnsons to receive a goody bag as their reward.

Johnsons are looking for independent shops in Evesham town centre, areas covered below, to take part in this year's trail so if you'd like to participate either by hosting a spooky letter or donating prizes for the goody bags, please contact Penny at Johnsons Property Consultants by The 11th October. Buisnesses are also welcome to donate to the childrens goodie bags with swag! Email Penny penny.preston@johnsons-property.co.uk

Minty May Mediumship & Tarot Reading

Business Spotlight

Minty May will be no stranger to many of you. He’s certainly one of Evesham’s most familiar characters and truthfully, he’s a bit of a celebrity with the following to match!

For the few who don’t know, Minty is Evesham’s resident psychic medium and tarot reader. His Grandmother discovered his gift when she caught him talking to his dead uncles at just 5 years old. A gifted psychic herself, she recognised that her grandson was similarly gifted and took him under her wing. Over the years, his gran helped him to cultivate and hone his gifts, teaching him to use spiritual aids including tarot cards, a Ouija board and crystals. Initially, he sat in on her readings and then aged 13 he went to his first psychic fair at Malvern where he started to do his own readings.

Over the years, he built a steady client base of customers who were so impressed with his foresight that they returned to him time and time again and spread the word about his abilities.

A few years ago, Minty’s then-wife suggested he used social media to further raise his profile which was when he started his Facebook page, Minty’s Tarot and Mediumship Reading. The page steadily amassed a following of around 700 followers but during lockdown, his reach exploded to around 4,000 followers when, inspired by a friend, he started doing Facebook lives that became hugely popular

Minty’s spent most of his life living in Worcestershire and the vast majority of his clients are based here and in the UK, however, he also has quite the following internationally. Minty has clients in the US, Canada, Australia, Europe, India and Peru, all of whom he does readings for online. In Australia, his following is such that there are two small mining towns (Brokenhill & Townsville) where he has several repeat customers and he has even been asked to visit to do an evening of mediumship. It’s certainly one of Minty’s ambitions and something he hopes to be able to do one day.

Closer to home he does regular events and even has a coffee, the Minty Coffee, named after him at a local coffee house in Evesham.

A word of warning, though before you attend one of his evenings. He is scarily accurate in his readings and has been known to ruin a few surprises - including a surprise birthday party and a proposal that was due to take place later that evening, so beware if you have something planned that you aren’t ready for anyone else to find out about!

Due to Minty’s reputation and following, he can be booked up 2-3 weeks in advance so if you’d like to book with him, be prepared to wait for a few weeks. This is especially true at the moment as Minty is due to be featured in Fame and Fortune Magazine in November which will likely boost his profile further. But if you’d like to book a reading with him you can reach out to him via his Facebook page Minty’s Tarot and Mediumship Reading or contact him via WhatsApp, text message, or phone on 07842856552.

You can also see Minty at 10/6 Tearoom on Halloween or at the Masons Arms, Wadborough on 28th October

Local Entrepreneur Takes Over the World One Football Club at a Time

Steve Cook - Football Coach, Dolphin Tec sales manager, founder of Non League Networking and recently voted Evesham noticeboard’s Entrepreneur of the Year. That’s quite a few hats to wear!!

In this months’ newsletter we catch up with Steve to discover how Non League Networking came about and how things are currently going.

Steve’s been working in sales for many years and in 2022, having recently joined a new firm, he thought it would be a great idea to set up his own networking group to help grow his connections and potentially generate business for his new employer.

A football coach at Evesham United Football Club, he quickly decided that the club would be the perfect venue for his networking and he would pass all profits directly to the club.

The first event, a breakfast networking meeting, was held in April 2022 with local businesses invited through social media marketing on Facebook and LinkedIn, and also via email. The event was a success with over 20 attendees on the day and the next few months saw numbers remain steady.

A few months on, the decision was made to move the networking meetup to lunchtime so that it did not clash with another local networking group, helping to boost attendee numbers. Around the same time, Steve parted ways with his employer and started working with new firm Dolphin Tec. It was at this point that, having been approached by Redditch United’s Commercial Director about setting up a group there, the group was formally rebranded as Non League Networking.

Since then Non League Networking the continued success has resulted in the brand expanding and it now has a presence in 7 non league football clubs  - Evesham, Redditch, Stratford, Stourbridge, Wolverhampton, Bromsgrove & Malvern attracting business owners from Worcestershire, Warwickshire and the West Midlands.

It’s a fantastic success story for an Evesham-based business and unlike other networking groups it’s not membership only and there are no limits on who can attend so it really is open to anyone who is interested in attending.

It was this success which raised Steve’s profile and resulted in his nomination and subsequent winning of the Evesham Entrepreneur of the Year Award. It’s also resulted in local connections being made that have benefited our community, created new friendships, and driven more business for other business owners in the area.

Thank you Steve for all your hard work and we look forward to seeing what happens next!

Non League Networking's October meet takes place on Thursday 26th October at EUFC from 12-2pm and includes lunch from £15. Click the link to book or you can pay on the day (Evesham noticeboard directory members get £5 discount)
