Evesham's April Feel Good Newsletter

Welcome to the April Edition of the Evesham Noticeboard Newsletter!!!

We hope you enjoyed the Easter Bank Holiday Weekend! April is finally here and things seem to be brightening up with our evenings getting lighter due to the clocks going forward.

It's also been a great start to the month hearing the wonderful news for our Tourist Information Centre and Almonry Museum who were able to secure grant funding for their ongoing restoration project - You can read more about this in our newsletter below.

Our Facebook group has also been extremely busy this last month, sadly not all good news as a local lady and her dog were injured in a hit and run. We are thinking of all the family and wishing them a speedy recovery.

One of the wonderful things that we have in Evesham is our community of talented woolly artisans. It's so lovely to see that our local yarn bomber has returned this month with a spring post box topper - complete with bunnies! Making many people smile - it really brightens up the place. We are very lucky to have people like this in our community who bring so much cheer, people like Evesham's very own 'Pikachu' who flies around the town on his moped bringing joy to all those who see them.

This month is going to be very busy for Evesham Noticeboard as we countdown to our Love Evesham Day on 4th May. We'll also be organising our regular business networking events and also starting preparations for the Love Evesham Awards 2024 - so watch this space!!!!

If you know or run a business in the Evesham, Pershore or Broadway area then you are invited to join our unique advertising platform. Please visit https://www.eveshamnoticeboard.co.uk/join Many business owners are enjoying the low cost but hugely supportive and connecting digital advertising.

The Big Evesham Spring Clean

If you've visited Evesham town centre recently, you may have noticed it's looking a lot cleaner!

In March, 63 volunteers along with the 1st Hampton Cub pack took part in two litter picks to clean up areas around the town centre.

The Hampton Cubs started the clean on the evening of Friday 15th March by clearing up around the graveyard and car park in Hampton

The big spring clean then took place on Sunday 17th March when 63 volunteers filled over 70 bags with litter collected from the various footpaths, streets, car parks, and parks in the town. As well as local residents, volunteers also came from the Evesham Civic Society, Evesham Vale WI,  Evesham volunteer centre, Evesham adventure playground association, Battle of Evesham committee, Droitwich and Evesham Labour Party, the deputy mayor, MP Nigel Huddleston, and councillors from Wychavon District Council and Evesham town council.

A huge thank you to all who took part, and a special shout-out goes to Tom at The Red Lion who provided refreshments and entertainment in the form of the singing binman (whom you may have spotted on our socials).

As we head into the warmer months and Evesham becomes host to some fabulous events, it's reassuring to know that Evesham is looking clean, tidy and welcoming to visitors. - Well done!

Lost kitties return home

Melon
Twinkle

If you've been following the group lately, you may have seen that two local kitties went missing from their respective homes.

Melon and Twinkle caused much worry to their owners when they did not return to their homes as expected. Their desperate owners took to social media asking local residents to check sheds and be on the lookout for both.

Happily, it seems to have worked as both have now been returned to their owners, looking none the worse for their ordeals - don't you just love a happy ending!

The Almonry to receive £2+ Million Grant for Restoration Project

The team at the Almonry museum are currently celebrating after discovering they are to receive a grant of £2.1 Million from the Arts Council England.

The grant of £2,175,000 from the Museum Estate and Development Fund (MEND) has been made available through the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, administered by Arts Council England.

The funds will be used for the Almonry restoration project which includes the repair and restoration of the timber frame, stonework and a new roof. The Almonry is currently on the heritage at risk register and is at risk of being lost if works are not carried out.

In the Almonry's press release they state, "The Restoration Project is Phase 1 of a wider project that will develop and improve the museum. While the building works are being carried out, Phase 2 will begin which includes a complete refurbishment of the museum, including new displays and new interpretation."

Museum Manager Ashleigh Jayes said about the overall project, ‘It is a large project, that’s why we are delivering it in two phases.  We need to continue fundraising though and we will be looking for help over the next few years to develop and grow the project, especially with Phase 2 where we will be working with our different communities and visitors to look at the stories we tell, how we tell them and how we present them.’

More Police for Evesham Streets?

Additional police officers are expected to appear on the streets of Evesham. Following an announcement by West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) John Campion, the new team will include both officers and police community support officers (PCSOs).

Evesham is one of 10 areas across Herefordshire and Worcestershire that will receive additional policing support. The new policing teams will focus on high street areas and will be funded through the PCC's 2024-25 budget.

"The town centre teams will bolster local policing in our communities, making sure we have officers in the places we know you want to see them and tackling the issues that really matter to you," said Acting Chief Constable Alex Murray..

The PCC also commented, "I hear regularly from communities calling for police officers to be ever more visible and accessible in the heart of communities I know these teams will help drive down crime and build strong relationships with the public and businesses they proudly serve.”

With crime in Evesham appearing to be on the increase, we can only hope that the additional police presence acts as a deterrent for those seeking to use Evesham for criminal activity.

Looking for advertising options for your business? Then this is for you >>>>>

Advertising in printed publications vs Advertising on digital platforms

While both digital and print advertising have their merits, digital offers several advantages that make it a stronger choice for gaining new customers and reaching bigger audiences. Times have changed and there is no getting away from the online world, especially if you running a business in 2024! From Facebook to Tik Tok if you are not promoting yourself online then why not?

Reach & Targeting:

  • Digital: Target specific demographics, interests, and online behaviour to reach the exact audience you want in Evesham. You can use social media advertising, search engine marketing, or local listings to reach people actively searching for your product or service.

  • Print: Reaches the same readership in most issues, targeting is limited by demographics and the publication's readership.

Measurability & Tracking:

  • Digital: Track impressions, clicks, website visits, and even conversions (sales or leads) to measure the effectiveness of your campaign and adjust your approach in real-time.

  • Print: Difficult to track how many people actually saw your ad and how many took action. You could add a tracking number for an extra cost or rely upon asking your customers, 'how did you hear about us?'

Cost-Effectiveness:

  • Digital: This can be more cost-effective than print, especially for targeted campaigns. Joining digital marketing platforms like Evesham Noticeboard means you have flexibility and control over your spending and frequency. Start and stop whenever suits you, as you are not tied in with our business advertising. You only pay when someone interacts with your ad.

  • Print: Typically has a higher upfront cost, regardless of how many people see it. It may be cheaper to commit to long-term advertising but you are normally under a contract and even if your business closes, you still have to pay for the space you didn’t even use!

Engagement & Interactivity:

  • Digital: Ads can be interactive, allowing users to click through to your website, learn more, or even make a purchase directly. You can create videos, reels, Tik Toks! Showcase your business, staff, team, and products! It's limitless!

  • Print: Limited to static visuals and text. It is more time-consuming to create print ads, you have to really consider getting value for money from one advert!

Timeliness & Flexibility:

  • Digital: Can be launched quickly and adjusted easily based on performance. You can self-manage posts or ads, and even take advantage of social media managers (which is still a fraction of the print costs)

  • Print: Lead times for print can be longer, and changes are difficult or impossible once printed.

Local Focus:

  • Digital: Using Facebook groups like Evesham Noticeboard that have a dedicated local audience helps reach people in their own homes, businesses or wherever they are! But public groups can also give your post a much higher reach as they could be seen by anyone, anywhere regardless of their membership to the groups. You can also utilise location targeting to ensure your ads are seen by people in Evesham and the surrounding areas.

  • Print: May reach a wider geographic area than intended, including areas outside your target market. Local publications are still delivered to certain home types, are a chosen demographic who may not be your ideal customer either, you cannot "home-in" or choose who reads it. Which means it's only ever read by the same people, age and homeowner type.

So for most businesses in Evesham, digital advertising really is the best option to help you market your business. It offers a more targeted, measurable, cost-effective, and engaging way to reach their target audience helping you to connect with them - and most importantly make more sales!!!

Evesham Noticeboard is owned, run and managed by locals, who live and work in the area. Its' primary focus is to support community news and communications responsibly to have a positive impact within our community.

Advertising through Evesham Noticeboard is far more cost-effective and with our different options, there's something to suit all our local business owners.  Plus there are no contracts, no late space fees, and you can track the performance of your advertising with real-time metrics.

Charities, not for profits and small community groups all receive free advertising on our website, Facebook Group, Podcast and e-news. And are also included in our annual Love Evesham Awards event and Love Evesham Day.

If you know or run a business in the Evesham, Pershore or Broadway area that needs help with their online advertising - then please consider joining us. We'd love to have you!

To find out more please visit https://www.eveshamnoticeboard.co.uk/join where you can join the many other local business owners that are enjoying affordable, but hugely supportive and connecting digital advertising.

Silver Birch @ BHGS

For this month's business spotlight, we visit the team at Silver Birch @ BHGS to discover their story. Silver Birch recently joined with the floral art team at BHGS and relocated from Port Street to BHGS's larger premises at the Vale Business Park.

This amazingly talented team creates beautiful floral sprays for weddings, memorials and other special occasions using both artificial and fresh flowers and we were delighted to have the opportunity to learn more about the business and watch them work.

Silver Birch originally began as a home-based business started by brother and sister team James and Hayley before they took the leap to start their own shop. A few years ago, James decided he wanted to move on to other things, and at the same time, an opportunity came up that allowed Silver Birch to join the floral art team at BHGS. Hayley and florist Dave from Silver Birch joined Rachel, Jo and Joanne from BHGS' floral team and they've been working together ever since.

The team are like a family. Their passion and enjoyment for their work is clear to be seen and the result can be seen in the beautiful floral sprays they put together. In Evesham, they are well known for their giant bouquets and bespoke memorial displays. The team also enjoys collaborating and working with other businesses including other florists in Evesham, building on the strong sense of community experienced in Evesham.

If you have a special occasion coming up which you need flowers for, please check them out. They really are only too happy to help. They'll also be making an appearance at our Love Evesham day next month so do go and say hello!

Evesham Noticeboard Networking - Thursday 18th April at The Almonry Museum - 12.15-2.15

Evesham Business Networking at Food to Go

In March, we hosted a lunchtime networking event at Food to Go for our Evesham Noticeboard members. Local business owners had the chance to network whilst enjoying a delicious buffet of sandwiches, quiche and sausage rolls supplied by Food to Go.

After the initial networking (and a few selfies), local business owner Sarah from the Accountancy Office gave a fascinating talk on the budget and what it means for local business owners. The session then finished with more networking.

It was lovely to see so many local business owners there networking and just generally becoming more acquainted with each other. We can't wait for the next one!

Interested in attending the next one? The next Evesham Noticeboard Networking Lunch is at the almonry on 18h April from 12.15-2.15 - use the link below to secure your place now.

What the latest budget means for businesses

What does the March 2024 budget mean for you? Here are the highlights:

  • National Insurance: 2% reduction for Class 1 & Class 4 contributions from April 2024
  • Child Benefit tax charges - changing how High Income Child Benefit Charge (HICBC) is charged:
    • Income threshold increasing to £60000.
    • Rate halved from 1% of the child benefit payment for every additional £100 earned above the threshold to 1% for every £200. Meaning child benefit will not be withdrawn in full unless individuals earn £80,000 or more
    • HICBC could be administered based on a household basis rather than an individual one by April 2026
  • VAT Registration Threshold: Increasing to £90,000 from April 2024. Deregistration threshold will be set at £88000
  • Dividend Allowances: Reducing to £500 from tax year 24/25
  • CGT Annual Exempt amount: Reducing to £3000 from tax year 24/25

Local accountant Sarah Sallis of The Accountancy Office also commented:

"While there was a focus on investment, particularly for SMEs, and cut in taxes will be welcomed by many small business owners, we will have to wait to see the impact that these measures have on the UK economy and business. The £5,000 increase in the VAT registration threshold is not a significant increase and it’s disappointing that it hasn’t been increased more. The threshold has been frozen for the past seven years and had it risen with inflation, it would now be above £100,000!"

Thanks to Sarah Sallis and the Team at The Accountancy Office for allowing us to reshare this. If you need help with your accounts, contact the team at the link below.
