Respiratory / chest physio
Respiratory physiotherapy is aimed at helping people with a variety of respiratory disorders. Our goals serving patients in the community are to help avoid chest infections and hospital admissions by helping to clear secretions, manage cough and improve breathing that affect daily life. This may be by optimising medication, inhaler technique, developing exercise regimes, breathing techniques or chest clearance techniques alongside other treatments.
Older people / falls prevention
We offer physiotherapy to promote independence and reduce the risk of falls with patients in their own home or care homes and other settings.
Learning disabilities
Due to patient's body asymmetry and reduced mobility they are at risk of chest infections/pneumonia and retained secretions which increases their risk of mortality.
Pneumonia is the main cause of mortality for these patients. Respiratory physiotherapy can help to manage body posture, clear secretions, manage lower respiratory tract infections and educate carers to develop management strategies and reduce hospital admissions thereby improve quality of life.
We can also offer holistic physiotherapy assessment and treatment to clients with learning disabilities with the aim to increase exercise and activity, reduce deformity, protect body shape and increase quality of life. This may include seating assessments, standing frames, sleep systems, exercise programmes, hydrotherapy, rebound therapy etc.
Physiotherapy for people with complex and multiple learning disabilities can help to protect body shape and avoid the previously though 'inevitable' deformities. This can then have a positive consequence on function and health. Physiotherapy can reduce chest infection rates, improve posture and comfort as well as protecting skin integrity. Sian can also help with seating and sleeping arrangements, assist in hydrotherapy and rebound therapy treatment plans too.
