From Right - Admins for Evesham Noticeboard Katie & Kim and far left our guest local photographer Kate RudetskaI have been truly blown away with the Facebook group this month! We have had an astonishing 16,222 posts and comments! Over 827,000 views! Yes that’s right, 827,000 views! Seen far and wide, our public group has soared to new heights! And why? Well mainly because of our members (you) who make it such a lovely group. From helping reunite missing dogs with their owners to connecting businesses to customers and all sprinkled with good vibes!

We do ask you to stay safe online this Christmas, please check out the article below about scam warnings. Remember if you are being asked to donate to something locally you have every right to see the financial accounts, ask where and how money is being donated and if it does not sound right, it probably isn’t! Be assured we vet all our local fundraisers, from local groups, charities and not for profits, all to ensure your hard-earned money is going where it's intended.

For us admins, it is key we run a group that cares and shares! But also keeps our community safe and informed.

Thank you again for your readership. We wish you all a happy and healthy December!

Wilma - home at last!

We love a bit of good news here at Evesham Noticeboard, which is why we were absolutely delighted when Wilma the dog was recently reunited with her owner, Joanne.

It seems we weren't the only ones who were pleased to hear the news and with over 450 likes, 75 comments and 25 shares it appears you all enjoyed the good news too.

With so many sad stories of pets being separated from their owners, it's so lovely to hear of such an amazing outcome. We are so glad that Wilma is home and that the community came together to help find her so well done Evesham!

Owner Joanne shares the full story... "Ok so Sunday 4th November about 5.30 my husband went to empty the recycling by our front door and Wilma who follows him everywhere anyway and who does this regularly, followed him out the door unbeknown to him but obviously fireworks were going off and she got frightened and bolted down the street. We immediately rushed out after her but she had vanished. We spent all that evening out searching and I immediately posted on FB that she was missing. My neighbours were all out looking and sharing the post within hours. She was gone for 4 nights and 3 days. It was easily the most stressful thing I've been through.

We had a man contact us who was part of a search and rescue dog charity who lived in Tewkesbury who came out a few times with his drone when we got any possible sightings. He was amazing. She was eventually found in a cow field at the top of Butt's lane by a lady who was feeding her horse in a field she rents from the farm there."

Joanne later expressed her thanks in the Facebook group after Wilma was found:

"I would like to say that the community spirit that was shown and the power of Facebook in such a good way was amazing and was lovely to experience."

Admin Katie said "We would like to thank all our followers and members for always sharing news like this, every little helps, we're so pleased Wilma is home"

Vale Matters Podcast Returns With Special Guest!

It's back! November saw the return of our engaging Vale Matters Podcast from our new recording location at Wallace House. In this month's podcast, Katie talks to our very own MP for mid-Worcestershire, Nigel Huddleston.

In the podcast, Nigel, who lives in Badsey, shares more about his life and career - which included a stint as head of Google Travel. He also tells us more about why he entered politics and how he feels his experiences help him in his role as MP.

Nigel is also extremely passionate about education, which he feels can unlock opportunities for people regardless of their backgrounds. It's also been a vital part of his story, helping him to get to where he is today.

Community is also very important to him and we have a very diverse community here in the Vale of Evesham all of whom have different backgrounds and experiences of wealth. He's a huge supporter of local initiatives to help the community and the many independent businesses based here.

To hear the podcast for yourself and find out more about how you can contact Nigel, you can listen to the podcast via the Spotify link below.

Work Starts on New Playground in the Muddies

It's official! On 20th November workmen were seen arriving at St Richards Open Space in Fairfield where work has started on the brand new playground.

We've been following progress on this project for a while and its amazing to see that all the hard work that has gone into fundraising (courtesy of the Friends of St Richards Open Space Group) and planning has all paid off.

The playground is due to be completed in 2024 and we can't wait to see once it's finished. It's a fantastic asset to the town and a much needed facilty for the children of Fairfield who can finally say they have their own playground.

For more updates check out the park group's Facebook page.

Hugely Successful Poppy Appeal raises over £36000 for Royal British Legion

November also saw the return of Evesham's Poppy Appeal with volunteers selling poppy's at businesses and organisations all over Evesham.

Fiona George Downey, representing the Royal British Legion said "We had an amazing Poppy Appeal this year with lots more volunteers coming forward we have 37 in total now which has been absolutely great and a massive help . The supermarkets have been outstanding and I appreciate that a lot of people wanted pin badges in boxes in shops, but by keeping them in the supermarkets  it allowed us to make a lot more money and keep control over where they were due to the very short supply that was given. This local lady deserves a big thumbs up! "Lady" Fiona George
The Evesham Poppy Appeal Organiser

A quick breakdown of the money that came in. Tesco’s £10,741.96, Morrisons £7871.10, Aldi £1545 & Lidl £1348.32. Waitrose, which was solely manned by Merstow Green Funeral Home collected £4404.27. They always do an amazing job there and it is really helpful as they take over that supermarket and that takes pressure off myself . We only have one street collector and that is Phillip Speed, Philip this year did £1749.74 which again is an absolutely amazing figure. Thank you Phillip .

Schools in the town are absolutely amazing too, and they always put in a lot of effort to raise money for the Poppy Appeal. Schools raised £2507.31 in total this year. All in all, without the support of all the town, the people who volunteer to help collect for the Poppy Appeal and the generous people who donate this would not happen, and therefore I’m truly grateful to those who help and get involved.

The best Evesham has ever done as a town was £33,083. This year Evesham will easily exceeded that and I have no worries that we will go over £37,000.

It’s great that we get support from The Evesham Sea Cadets, Evesham Army Cadets and Badsey Cubs & Scouts. If any other organisations would like to get involved next year please contact Fiona on 07736 884014

So once again, thank you all so much and here’s to another successful appeal next year."

Well done to all Involved in the amazing fundraising efforts.

Santa's Sleigh is back for 2023

Special Community Spotlight

Santa and his sleigh will be returning to the streets of Evesham this December. Organised by Evesham Round Table, Santa and his elves will be out doing his rounds to plan out his route and make sure everything is ready ahead of his big flight on the night of Christmas Eve.

Working with Santa and the Evesham Round Table team will be local charities who will be out collecting donations. Volunteers from charity groups including Santa Saves Christmas, Evesham AED team amongst others are taking part and some are also looking for volunteers to get in touch to collect. (Contact them to get involved)

Santa's sleigh is a tradition that has been running for many years and is much loved by families in the town who look forward to Santa's visit each year. The best part (other than seeing Santa of course) is that all of the money goes to worthy causes in Evesham.

Did you know that Evesham Round Table has been helping the local community since 1950? Recently they have helped Wallace House food bank, Ourside Youth Club, Evesham Defibrillators, and provided support for Bengeworth Remembrance Parade.

Evesham Round Table are constantly looking out for local needs and helping where we can either financially or with manpower. They welcome all men aged between 18 and 45 and for ladies there is also a Ladies Circle. To join, contact Vale of Evesham Round Table 295.

To find out when Santa will be visiting your neighbourhood, check out his schedule below.

Be 'Green' this Christmas with these festive eco-friendly tips

With a 'White Christmas' looking unlikely based on the current forecast, why not make your Christmas an eco-friendly green one instead?

Celebrating a green and eco-friendly Christmas is a wonderful way to spread festive cheer while also caring for the planet. Here are some tips for a sustainable and environmentally conscious holiday season:

Let's look local first: We are very lucky to have Empty Jars - Refill & Zero Waste Shop in Evesham town centre and who have recently been awarded 'The Oxley's Furniture Sustainability Award!'

Top tip - Eco-friendly Christmas buy! They have the above reusable advent calendar for sale in their Evesham High Street Shop!

Our Top Tips for A Green Christmas

1. Mindful Gift Giving - Consider giving experiences, consumables, or sustainable products instead of material gifts. This reduces the environmental impact of manufacturing and packaging.

2. DIY Decorations - Get creative and make your own Christmas decorations using recycled materials or make your own using natural materials like wook which are biodegradable and can be composted after use. This can be a fun and festive activity for the whole family.

3. Energy-Efficient Lighting - Opt for LED lights for your Christmas tree and decorations. LED lights are energy-efficient and last longer than traditional incandescent bulbs.

4. Upcycled Wrapping - Instead of buying new wrapping paper, repurpose old newspapers, magazines, or even fabric scraps to wrap your gifts. This reduces waste and adds a unique touch to your presents.

5. Local and Handmade Gifts - Support local businesses and artisans by choosing locally-made and handcrafted gifts. This helps reduce the carbon footprint associated with transportation.

6. Zero-Waste Celebrations - Aim for zero-waste parties by using reusable plates, cups, and cutlery. If disposable items are necessary, choose compostable options.

7. Sustainable Christmas Tree - If you prefer a real tree, consider buying a potted tree that can be planted after the holidays. Alternatively, choose an artificial tree made from eco-friendly materials that can be reused for many years.

8. Mindful Consumption - Be conscious of your christmas food choices. Try to minimise food waste by planning meals carefully and storing leftovers properly. Consider buying local and organic produce.

9. Charitable Giving - Instead of traditional gifts, consider making a donation to a charity or a cause in someone's name. This not only reduces the need for physical items but also supports meaningful initiatives.

10. Recycle -  Recycle as much as you can - to find out exactly what you can and can’t recycle visit the Wychavon recycling page

By incorporating these tips into your Christmas celebrations, you can contribute to a more sustainable and eco-friendly holiday season.

Evesham Set to GLOW to raise money for new defibrillators

Do you love Christmas lights?

Do you and your children love to go looking for houses decorated in christmas lights? Then you need to check out Evesham's Christmas Light Trail.

To take part you'll need to buy a trail map with a list of the participating addresses. These are available from the Valkyrie for just £2. Maps are available to buy now but the trail doesn't officially start until 1st December which is when households will be lit up from.

One of the addresses on the sheet will not have any lights and if you can spot which one that is, you could win a selection box.

Completed forms will then need to be returned on selected dates and times but remember it's one selection box per form so if you have 2 children wanting their own selection box, you'll need 2 forms.

Forms can be returned to the Valkyrie on:

  • Sunday 3rd December 1pm until 2pm
  • Saturday 9th December 11.30am until 1.30pm
  • Sunday 10th December 11am until 3pm
  • Monday 18th December 5.30pm until 6.30pm
  • Thursday 21st December 8pm until 9pm
  • Saturday 30th December 12pm until 1pm

You have until the 24th December at which time the trail ends.

All funds raised will go to Evesham AED (Defibrillator fundraising). The selection boxes have been donated by local businesses and individuals and any left over after the event will be passed to the Santa Saves Christmas charity.

Elfing around in Evesham

Evesham Noticeboard's Elf on the Shelf Gets Off the Fence and Says "Keep it Local, You Grinches!"

In a recent festive visit to Evesham and Blackminster Businesses Park, Evesham Noticeboard's Elf on the Shelf took a stand against online shopping and encouraged everyone to "Keep it Local" this Christmas.

The Elf's message was clear: there's no need to look online for gifts when Evesham has so many wonderful shops and businesses to offer. From beauty treatments and hair vouchers to local craft events and gym memberships, there's something for everyone.

The Elf's video, which can be viewed here, highlights some of the great businesses in Evesham, including Stirr Ups, Blackminster Business Park, Hot Tubs Rock, Blackminster Glow Tanning Shop, Creative Hair Salon, Saturday Auction, Vale Irrigation, Almonry Museum and Gift Shop, Zim Print, The Trumpet Inn, Leggett & James, Vine Mews Arcade, Kaz & Annies Ceramics, Axolotl and Reptile Rescue, Poppy Rose Tattoos, Howden Insurance, Bradfords Carpets, Flooring & Beds, Iconic Beauty Salon, Red Lion, Market Square, and Evesham High Street.

Santa Saves Christmas Fundraising Continues

Kyle and his elves from Santa Saves Christmas have been incredibly busy over the last few weeks.

Evesham's very own homegrown celebrity switched on the town's Christmas lights!

If you have been following our local family man Kyle Hotchkins, you may have noticed the amazing work he and his elf team are doing for families in the Vale of Evesham who are struggling this year and need a little help with food, presents, electric and gas. Many of you recognised the fact on the Facebook group and suggested that he be chosen to turn on the town's Christmas lights.on Saturday 18th November.

On the night, Kyle arrived dressed to impress as a certain someone and led the town in the countdown to switch on the lights. At the same time, Kyle was also able to raise further awareness of Santa Saves Christmas and raise further funds for this very worthy cause.

He did an excellent job switching them on and it was great to see a deserving local hero switch them on!

Santa Saves Christmas are now organising their first event, a Christmas family fun day.

News from a chilly 2023 Evesham Christmas Artisan Fayre by organiser Mick

The sub-zero temperatures of last weekend didn’t prevent hundreds of visitors coming to the centre of Evesham to browse the 70 high-quality artisan stands. Uniquely the Evesham Christmas Artisan Fayre, features Medieval, Victorian and Modern artisans, and traders dressed the part, plus decked their gazebos and authentic medieval tents with period Christmas finery.

Local and national performers played their part, singing solo or in choirs, some played instruments and others danced in groups, all performed for free to entertain the visitors, in a packed schedule - right up to 7pm on Saturday night – and all-day Sunday.

The freezing temperature added to the atmosphere created by the Ragged Victorians, a street performance group, who portray the lower classes of Victorian society, one walked around bare foot all day portraying an old soldier, now forced into begging. The eleven performers included children pick-pockets, ladies of the street and vagabonds. They talked to visitors about life in Victorian slums and how they made a living on the streets – fascinating and educational.

In contrast, many traders and visitors were also dressed as the upper-class Victorian society with splendid frocks and coat tails and top hats.

Saturday evening saw around 100 families parade through the streets with home-made lanterns in a splendid show of illuminated creativity – ending at the Bell Tower with carols. Shortly followed by a fabulous blues-rock band to finish the evening off with some high-energy tunes.

Sunday’s freezing mizzle meant that most of the public stayed at home, except for a few hundred hard-core visitors and several coach-party day trips from, Staffordshire, Lichfield and Devon. They thoroughly enjoyed their trip to the heart of Evesham and have vowed to come back in May, for the Evesham Medieval Market and Living History Camp.

Extra thanks to our hard working volunteers who spent from Thursday to Monday in the cold and damp making it all happen. They are all superstars.

Ourside Youth Association receives royal recognition

Ourside Youth Association was recently thrilled to be one of two Worcestershire groups out of a total of 262 local charities, social enterprises and voluntary groups to receive the prestigious King's Award for Voluntary service. The award aims to recognise outstanding work by local volunteer groups to benefit their communities. The team at Ourside have asked us to express their appreciation particularly to their amazing volunteers past and present for everything they have done to make a difference to young peoples lives.

Ourside relies heavily on the passion and dedication of volunteers to keep the doors open and make it what it is today. Ourside was originally started in 2004 by a group of young people who had nowhere to go and wanted to do something about it. It was through the volunteering of a group of 16 year olds that started Ourside in the first place. This ethos remains strong today with some original founders becoming trustees and a strong youth committee which are the main link between the young people, staff and trustees ensuring that we continuously respond to the needs and challenges that young people face.

Christmas Parties Season Is Here Again!!

by The Accountancy Office

The Festive season is nearly upon us!

Can I claim for my company's Christmas Party?

The good news is yes, you can!

HMRC allow an exemption from tax, National Insurance and reporting if it’s an annual event, open to all employees and costs no more than £150 (including VAT) per head. You can also claim the £150 for guests of employees. The VAT on the cost can also be claimed back.

It’s important to remember this is an exemption, not an allowance. If your party costs £151 (or more) per person, you won’t be able to claim the first £150 as a business expense – the whole amount will be taxed as normal.

If you are a sole director of a limited company, you are an employee so the £150 exemption is still available to you – you could even take your partner and go out for £300.

Sorry, but if you're a sole trader this exemption doesn't apply to you because you're not an employee.

Got a question on Christmas parties? Get in touch and they'll be happy to help! 01386 764741 The Accountancy Office
